Leaderboards serve the purpose of prestige, giving players something to climb towards, optimize for, and play for. In Diablo 3 this was standard practice with Greater Rift Leaderboards, which are still being used today, but Diablo 4’s only leaderboard was for the now removed Gauntlet system. It seems Blizzard has a change of heart however, announcing in their Roadmap that Leaderboards are on the way for 2026.
